Welcome to our comprehensive course on Feeding Tubes and Gastrostomy Management in Developmental Services. This training is designed for developmental services staff, including nurses, developmental service workers, and personal support workers. It provides the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to safely support individuals who require feeding tubes and gastrostomy (stoma) care.
Through clear explanations and practical guidance, you will learn about the anatomy and physiology of the digestive system, medical conditions that may require enteral nutrition, and the different types of feeding tubes. The course also covers step-by-step procedures for administering nutrition and fluids, best practices for formula and medication administration, and techniques for ongoing care and assessment. In addition, you will learn how to identify and troubleshoot common issues, as well as when to seek further assistance from a healthcare provider.
By the end of this course, you will have the knowledge and confidence to safely manage feeding tubes and provide informed, compassionate support, ensuring the health, comfort, and quality of life of the individuals you serve.
