Welcome to our comprehensive course on Catheterization in Developmental Services. This training is designed for developmental services staff, including nurses, developmental service workers, personal support workers, and educators. It provides essential knowledge and practical skills to support individuals who require catheter care, while ensuring safety, dignity, and effective infection prevention.

Through clear explanations and practical examples, you will learn about the anatomy of the urinary system, the different types of catheters (indwelling, intermittent, suprapubic, and external), and the specific care procedures required for each. The course also emphasizes safe hygiene practices, drainage bag management, tubing care, securement techniques, and how to recognize early signs of complications such as infection, blockages, or trauma.

By the end of this course, you will be equipped with the knowledge and confidence to perform catheter care procedures safely and effectively. This includes completing intermittent catheterization, documenting observations accurately, and ensuring the comfort and well-being of the individuals you support.
