Welcome to our comprehensive course on Choking Prevention and Risk Recognition in Developmental Services. This training is designed for developmental services staff, including nurses, developmental service workers, personal support workers, and educators. It provides essential knowledge and practical strategies to reduce choking risks and respond effectively in emergencies.

Through clear explanations and practical guidance, you will learn to recognize the differences between partial and complete choking, including the signs, symptoms, and appropriate responses for each. The course also explores the risk factors that increase choking likelihood in individuals with developmental disabilities, along with safeguards such as supervision and safe food preparation techniques. In addition, you will review first aid responses, when to seek emergency medical help, and how to accurately document and report choking incidents to support improved care and prevention.

By the end of this course, you will have the knowledge and confidence to prevent choking incidents, respond effectively during emergencies, and ensure proper follow-up through thorough documentation and reporting.
