Diabetes and Blood Glucose Monitoring

This course will focus on the types of diabetes, how it is diagnosed and the potential complications of the disease when it is not well managed. We will also explore treatment options, how to monitor blood glucose levels and the proper administration of medications. At the end of this course the student will be able to:

1. Describe the effects of diabetes on the body.
2. Describe the difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
3. Indicate the possible complications of having diabetes.
4. Recognize the methods used to diagnose diabetes.
5. Assist individuals in implementing a diabetes management plan.
6. Safely measure and record blood glucose levels.
