Welcome to our comprehensive course on Administering Medications by Inhalation in Developmental Services. This training is designed for developmental services staff, including nurses, developmental service workers, and personal support workers. It provides the essential theoretical knowledge required to safely administer medications by inhalation, while ensuring compliance with the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA) and Quality Assurance Measures (QAM).
Through clear explanations and practical examples, you will learn the basic anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system, the responsibilities of unregulated care providers, and the common respiratory conditions that may require inhalation therapy, with a focus on asthma and bronchitis. The course also covers the medications used to manage respiratory symptoms, the different types of inhalers and how to use them, as well as charting requirements and when to seek additional support from a healthcare provider.
By the end of this course, you will have the knowledge and confidence to administer medications by inhalation safely and effectively, ensuring competent, informed, and compassionate care for the individuals you support.
